Day 3: Colombo (B/L/D)
Colombo is the executive and judicial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka by population. With a history shaped by ancient trade routes and colonial eras under the Portuguese, Dutch, and British, Colombo boasts a rich architectural and cultural heritage.
Our sightseeing today includes Colombo Fort (the historic and financial heart of the city), Pettah Market, National Museum, Gangaramaya Temple, and Lotus Tower (Sri Lanka’s tallest building) for a balance of culture, history, and contemporary attractions.
Day 4: Colombo – Polonnaruwa – Habarana (B/L/D)
The morning drive to Habarana takes about 3 ½ hours (180 km).
After dropping off luggage at the hotel in Habarana, we drive one hour (50 km) to the well-preserved ancient city of Polonnaruwa – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993. It encompasses the monumental ruins of the garden-city created by Parakramabahu I in the 12th century as well as the Brahmanic monuments built by the Cholas.
