Japan Times reports yesterday that “Japan finally opened its borders to foreign independent tourists after almost three years on Tuesday, with seaports and airports across the country welcoming overseas arrivals…”
Beginning October 11, overseas tourists vaccinated against COVID will no longer have to be tested or quarantined before or arrival as long as they are asymptomatic. As before the pandemic, tourists from 68 countries including Canada and the United States can visit Japan visa-free again.
This development is being widely reported in news media across the world. This is definitely great news for consumers eager to explore the Land of the Rising Sun as well as for people engaged in the Japanese tourism trade. The reopening may be off to a slow start due to logistic challenges and the wait-and-see attitude among many wishing to visit Japan, but there is no doubt that Japan’s appeal to overseas visitors remains strong.
